— The city of Bentonville, Benton County, the state of Arkansas and the nation lost one of the most outstanding men I have had the privilege and honor to know.

Paul Carter was a man of strong conviction, superior intellect and an exceptionally caring heart. A man of faith, Paul lived the virtues delineated by the apostle Paul in Chapter 13 of his first letter to the church at Corinth. As the apostle defined love, so Mr. Paul Carter exemplified. He was the quintessence of patience, kindness and trustworthiness. Paul was never self-serving nor arrogant;

never unbecoming or begrudging;

always gentle and encouraging.

When my mother passed away in September 2007, Paul Carter took time from his busy day to call me at home and offer his condolences and comfort. Paul also listened to me; he let me talk as long as I wanted and never gave me the impression that he was in a hurry. I will forever remember his kindness, concern, sincerity,sympathy, and especially the love he had for another human being. Paul Carter was a giant of a man - if not physically, then emotionally, intellectually and most assuredly spiritually.

Paul Carter has passed on to be with our Lord. However, he has left a legacy of love with those of us whose lives he touched during his short, fully lived 69 years. Paul was a man of faith, hope and love.

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” I Corinthians 13:13.

NEW TAX NEEDED

Hooray for Bella Vista and the proactive stand to protect the citizens and our way of life.

I moved here from Irving, Texas, which in 1962 was a beautiful, quiet bedroom community with excellent schools, wellkept neighborhoods, a varietyof grocery stores and superior shopping. Because of a lack of proactivity by the city leaders and police department, Irving is being taken over by illegals and drug dealers, and the older and most beautiful part of the city has pretty much turned into a slum despite the ongoing efforts of half of the population.

I support the new sales tax proposal to improve our police and fire departments as well as the purchase of a police dog.

Mostly, I support and celebrate the proactive attitude of our city leaders. If Irving’s leadership had shared that attitude, Irving would still be the “City of Choice” as its identity statement claims.

I plan to vote for the new tax and will be donating for the purchase of a magnificent German Shepherd to help protect our city from drugs, criminals, and deterioration. Maybe the citizens could name him.
