BELLA VISTA A twohour search Monday for a missing Bella Vista man ended when police found him dead in his car in the Highlands.
The search for Bob Remerscheid, 81, of 52 Eriboll Lane, began at noon when his wife, Lois, reported her husband had left two hours earlier to pick up a friend at the Dairy Queen and go bowling in Rogers.
However, Remerscheid never arrived, according to police reports.
As a result of a phone call from a passerby, he was found shortly after 2:15 p.m. in his Lincoln Town Car in a heavily wooded area, 333 feet from Scotsdale Drive, said Capt. Tim Cook with the Bella Vista Police Department.
Based on their investigation, authorities speculate Remerscheid's death was linked to medical conditions, Cook said.
The wooded terrain, in combination with the Bella Vista Police Department being shorthanded, made the search challenging, Cook said.
Two officers called in sick, so an officer from the midnight shift stayed late and another officer came in early from the evening shift to help retrace Remerscheid's route, Cook said. Eventually, three officers were involved.
Officers retraced different routes Remerscheid could have taken to get to the Dairy Queen, Cook said.
They searched parking lots and called people he was supposed to bowl with to see if they had seen him.
Bob Remerscheid’s last name was spelled wrong in a story in Wednesday’s edition of The Benton County Daily Record. The Daily Record apologizes for the error.
