— Having just read an opinion page article by Jose Luis Aguayo-Herrera, my sense of astonishment went off the scale. Mr. Aguayo-Herrera states we are in dire need of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) better known in the common vernacular as “Get Pummeled for Your Vote Act” (GPYVA). I state we already have the EFCA in Effect. It is the Secret Ballot. It is a cornerstone of this representative democracy we call the United States. By allowing union thugs to know for whom you voted to me would be the same as painting a big red bull’s-eye target on your back.

Be wary of the union thugs with broad smiles and glad-handed fists telling you, “I’m from the union and I’m here to help you.”

In reality they’re helping take your dues and deposit them in the coffers of every Democratic cause and member that will support their agenda and be hanged if you as a member of that union don’t agree. All thoseof a similar ilk as Mr. Aguayo-Herrera would be better served by satisfactorily performing the jobs for which they were hired. The blatant attempt at backdooring the company to jump through the union hoop by this so-called EFCA is simply an open power grab by the unions.

Union membership in this country has dropped dramatically in the last few decades and now consists of less than one-third of the working populace. Once again the generally accepted premise is if you produce a poor product with labor that is unanswerable only to the unions consumers will cease to purchase that product. I would say that Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, etc., have demonstrated that worker security and productivity will in the long run be maintained by a quality product produced by quality workers without the aid of unions.
